Why We Treat Bees And Wasps Differently

Are there major differences between bees and wasps? Most people never think about this. In fact, most people do not see much of a difference between these insects (and can’t always tell them apart). Unfortunately, this simply isn’t the case. Believe it or not, there are some very good reasons why we treat these insects differently.

The main differences between these two insects

The main difference between bees and wasps is aggression. Overall, you do not have to be afraid of bees. As long as you stay away from their colony, you should be fine. These insects only sting if they feel you are threatening their nest. They may also sting if they feel trapped, or you attack them in some way. For example, if you try to crush a bee, it could sting you. Bees die if they sting just once, so they tend to use this protective trait prudently.

On the other hand, wasps are completely different. These pests are known for their aggression. This is especially true if you come near their nests, and they are particularly tetchy in autumn. Wasp patrols ruthlessly guard the area around their nest. If you come into this area, they will not hesitate to sting you. These pests are so aggressive, that even walking past their nest can get you stung. Unlike bees, wasps can sting multiple times with no harm to themselves.

The bottom line is that bees and wasps are different

Not only are bees placid creatures, they are also vital for our eco system and should not be exterminated. Their nests ought to be dealt with sensitively by a trained specialist in order to relocate the hive and preserve its inhabitants.

On the other hand, the aggressive nature of wasps is why we wear full protective gear when exterminating wasps. Our technicians do not approach the nest without head to toe covering. This is also why we do not recommend that you deal with the nest yourself. It’s always best to hire a wasp control professional, who can remove the nest without danger. Many people think it’s as simple as knocking down the nest, or setting in on fire. We do not recommend this. If you have a nest near your home, stay as far away from it as possible.

Something else you should realise is that getting stung by a wasp can be deadly. Many people are allergic to their stings. You could end up in hospital or worse.
