In fact, many people enjoy the sight of a fox in their garden or on a late night London street. If you feel this way, it’s probably because you’ve never dealt with problematic foxes. You see, to many residents of the capital, these animals are a huge nuisance. However cute they msy be, for many Londoners, there comes a point at which foxes become a pest. But why is this?

Foxes are pests and here are some reasons why

When talking about problem foxes, we’re mostly referring to urban foxes. These animals live in built up areas like towns and cities, and are capable of causing enormous damage. This mostly occurs during their search for food. London foxes live out of dustbins. When bins are put out at night, the foxes attack them. Another reason why foxes are pests is because they can cause damage to homes and gardens. Foxes often come into gardens when looking for food and a place to make a den. They dig up bulbs, eat pet food, and strip fruit trees. If you have a vegetable patch, then foxes can easily destroy it. Foxes also love to dig. These pests dig up lawns and flowerbeds when looking for earthworms. They also dig beneath fences to gain access.

The problem can worsen when foxes move in

If you’re particularly unlucky, foxes may also build a den in your back garden. Something else that foxes are known for is killing other wildlife. These pests hunt birds, and other mammals. This can drive nature from the environment if you have foxes living in your garden. Foxes can also be a problem for Londoners who keep chickens or pet rabbits outdoors.

At the end of the day, however lovely these creatures are, foxes are pests. Foxes are evolving as they become savvy to the way our human world functions. But what can you do about this issue? First take care of your rubbish properly. All rubbish must be stored in secure bins that seal tightly. If your bins don’t seal, them place a brick on the lid. Bins should also be washed from time to time. It’s also a good idea to take the rubbish out just as the bin men arrive, not the night before.

Also, make sure that nothing in your garden is attracting foxes. For example, your compost heap should be covered up, and pet food removed from the garden overnight. You may also want to keep your compost in bins as part of your London fox control routine. Something else you can do is place chicken wire along your fences. Secure this to go at least a foot below ground level. This will prevent foxes from digging beneath your fence and can help to keep them out.
