Do Moth Traps Work To Stop Moths?

Do moths traps actually work? Moths are a not nearly as prevalent as flies or cockroaches.  Despite this, however, they can still cause a massive issue if they turn into an infestation. That being said, what’s the best way to get rid of these pests? In this article, we’ll discuss some of the most effective methods.

Will moth traps get rid of clothes moths?

Believe it or not, moth traps are highly effective. The reason for this is because the traps use female moth pheromones. These attract male moths. The moth enters the trap (which is coated with a glue surface) and becomes stuck. Because they cannot get free, these moths eventually die. You need to be careful when purchasing moth traps. Make sure that the trap will work on the species of moth that is giving your problems. For example, some of these traps only work on clothes moths or case bearing moths.

With the males eliminated, the females cannot reproduce, and the moth population eventually collapses. Ultimately, these traps are an easy way to eliminate moths from your home if you have a low-grade moth problem. If you already have a full on infestation, then London moth control assistance may be required.

What’s also interesting about these moth traps is that they are species-specific. This means they only contain moth pheromones, so only moths are attracted into the trap. Other insects are not killed by them. Depending on your point of view, this might be a drawback.

What about getting rid of other moth types?

For house moths you could use a bug zapper. As you’re probably aware, house moths are attracted to lights. These zappers have a strong light which attracts the moth. There’s also a metal grill that is electrified. When the moth lands on this grill it dies.

Another idea, for when you want to remove moths from your cupboards is moth balls. The only problem with these balls is that they are extremely toxic. This means that you may not want to use them around food, pets or children.

Cedar wood is a great alternative. This is a known moth repellent. You can place blocks of cedar wood around your cupboards. In addition to this, you can also get anti-moth cedar wood spray. The drawback to this method is that it only repels moths. This means that cedar wood won’t get rid of moths that are already in your home, it will simply drive them out of closets.

Another natural product that works to repel moths hiding in the house is lavender bags. Most pests hate the smell of this herb, including moths. Planting lavender in your garden will also keep moths from getting into your home. You can also purchase bags of dried lavender and place them in your cupboards.
