Mice Christmas Tree Pests: What To Do?

Christmas is a special time for your family. But it can also be a major boon for mice. These small rodents are one of the worst Christmas tree pests you will ever encounter.

Why Are Mice Such Terrible Christmas Tree Pests?

They love to climb.

Mice are highly skilled at climbing and jumping. Your Christmas tree gives them a perfect place to do this. They will quickly take up residence in your tree if you let them.

All that extra food

During Christmas there is always more food than usual. This attracts mice and can cause problems for you. These Christmas tree pests will eat anything, but are known to especially love sugary food.

This can be problematic if you use edible decorations of any kind. Mice love sugary decorations like chocolate, gingerbread men, popcorn and candy canes. Basically, these foods are an open buffet for them, and they will quickly strip them clean from your tree.

Christmas presents

The Christmas presents under your tree can provide a fun festive project for mice. As I’m sure you know, mice can cause serious damage to your house if they start gnawing. Their teeth never stop growing, which means they have to constantly chew to grind them down. When Christmas comes round this can include gnawing on your Christmas presents. Mice love presents because the wrapping paper and cardboard make great material for their nests.

Presents are extra attractive to mice if you’ve filled them with sweet treats. Mice can also use the presents to climb and gain access to higher branches of your tree. They can also gnaw on Christmas tree lights. This is potentially very dangerous because it can lead to electrical fires.Christmas cake
