Why Having Summer Bed Bugs Is Worse

Bed bugs are still an enormous problem right across the whole of the UK. And, although these insects are active all year round and do not hibernate, they are definitely a particularly difficult issue during summer. There are a range of reasons why summer bed bugs are such a problem. In the following post, we will be discussing a few of the main causes of this.

Factors that make bed bugs worse in summer

One of the biggest problem with bed bugs during the summer is that people wear fewer clothes. This means that more of your skin is exposed, and bed bugs can bite you more easily. Another issue is that, in general, insects breed faster in warm weather. This means their numbers are greatly increased during the warmest season.

Another huge problem with summer bed bugs is that this is the time when most people go on holiday. If you’re unlucky, then you may bring holiday bed bugs back home with you. Many of us also have more days out in the open air in summer than at other times of the year. You can easily pick up bed bugs from high traffic spots like the beach, for example. And, believe it or not, bed bugs do live in the wild. They are known to crawl into clothing when you’re sitting on grass, or out walking through woods.

So what can you do about summer bed bugs?

First of all, determine if you actually have bugs. Look for the symptoms. This includes blood spots on your bedding. You may also see dark brown spots. These are caused by bed bugs droppings. You may also notice pieces of insect skin that the bugs have shed, or even dead bed bugs. Finally, a large amount of these bugs in one area will create a musty ordour. This is caused by their pheromones.

If you think you have bed bugs, then thoroughly wash your bedding. Also vacuum the area around your bed and underneath the mattress. These activities might help, but won’t eliminate the infestation, so always call in a London bed bug control professional. They can offer treatments that are most effective technique for killing bed bugs.

When on holiday, prevention is better than cure, so check your accommodation from top to bottom using a torch. What you do when you’re ready to leave for home is just as important, and you should pack your bags carefully. Check every part of your luggage for bed bugs. Then, check your clothes. Once your bag is packed, leave it outside the room, or in the bathroom. Once you’ve arrived home, immediately unpack your bag and wash all clothing. Do not leave it in the corner waiting to be unpacked. If you’ve brought back bed bugs, this gives them a chance to crawl out the bag.
