Why We Comply To 30 UK Pest Control Laws

It may surprise you to know that there are 30 UK pest control laws.  This sounds like a lot, but even so, we comply to all of them. Our company offers a high degree of professionalism and the best customer experience possible. The legislation is in place to ensure that health and safety is always paramount, that the public are not put in any danger, and that commercial outlets providing food are kept pest-free. It also sees to it that the environment is not needlessly damaged, and that wildlife is not unnecessarily harmed.

Examples of the UK pest control laws we follow

If a company uses pesticides or poisons of any kind, they must comply with a number of laws. One of these laws is the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 1994 (the acronym COSHH is used). What this means is that our company must use pesticides or poisons in a specific way. The amounts we use, the way we apply them, and the precautions we must take to protect those applying them, are all stipulated in UK pest control laws.

So, for example, you might see us wearing protective clothing, instructing you to stay away from the area during treatments, and using poisoned traps that cannot be accessed by pets. It also covers the safe storage and disposal of chemicals. It’s not just about what a company does at your home or business. Some of these substances can’t just be poured down the drain or thrown in a bin.

Why pest control laws make a difference

You might think that it’s over-the-top to have so many UK pest control laws. But think about it. Cowboys and conmen, or those just wishing to cut corners, can put the public, wildlife, the environment or their own employees, in danger. As pest controllers, we take our responsibilities very seriously.

The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, states that employees must be properly trained (in our case, for example to use hazardous substances). The Poisons Act 1972 is another law we follow. Control of pesticides regulation 1986 is yet another. There are laws that govern the use of traps, which we adhere to.

Sometimes our role is to help others follow the law. The Food Safety Act of 1990 states that food sold to the public must not be contaminated. And we all know that flies, cockroaches and rodents can contaminate food. That’s why pest control is so important for restaurants.

We offer the highest possible standard of service. Following the many laws passed by the UK government relevant pest control, is part of that standard. Whether you are a homeowner, business owner, tenant or landlord, call us if you need a London pest control company that is serious about your safety.
