Cockroaches are famous for their ability to survive in almost any type of environment. They are also notorious for being difficult to kill. Part of the reason why is because they can survive on almost anything. These pests are omnivores and are not picky eaters. In fact, the things that cockroaches eat even include items that are not technically food. But exactly what do cockroaches actually eat?
Things that cockroaches eat include these:
The things that cockroaches eat can include almost anything. That being said, they do have some favourite foods. Whether it’s german or oriental cockroaches, we have put together a list of the top 10.
1. Meat
Like humans, cockroaches love eating meat. It doesn’t matter what type of meat they have access to, cockroaches will gladly feast upon it.

2. Sugar
Cockroaches are particularly fond of sugary foods. The sugar gives them energy, which is why they make a beeline for sweet foods. This can include anything containing sugar such as sweets, cakes, fruit and more.
3. Starches
Cockroaches are also fond of the carbohydrates found in starchy foods. This why you often find them in kitchen cupboards. These pests love eating things like bread, cereal, rice, pasta and grains.
4. Cardboard
As we’ve said, cockroaches will even eat things which are not technically food. This includes cardboard. The reason why cockroaches go for cardboard is because it contains cellulose, which can sustain them.

5. Greasy food
Grease contains fat, which cockroaches will gladly consume. This is why it’s so important to keep the area around your stove clean. If you don’t, cockroaches will quickly make a home beneath your cooker.
6. Pet food
It’s also important that you keep pet bowls clean in your quest for London cockroach control. Cockroaches will often come out and feast upon scraps which are left in pet bowls.
7. Fingernail clippings
Bizarrely enough, things that cockroaches eat also include human fingernails. This is simply because our nails contain something known as keratin, which is actually a type of protein.

8. Other insects
To cockroaches, another insect is simply a type of “meat,” and one which they are happy to feed on. No matter what type of insects you might be thinking of, cockroaches can probably easily digest it.
9. Faeces
Believe it or not, faeces can actually be a rich source of nutrients for cockroaches. When desperate, these pests will eat dog, cat, rodent, and even human faeces. You can see why cockroaches are a health risk just from this fact alone.
10. Decaying matter
Like flies, cockroaches are perfectly happy with decaying and rotting matter. Things that cockroaches eat can include dead plants and animals, trees, and the rubbish in your bin.
