Prepare Your Home For Spring Insects

With the warmer weather coming, spring insects are about to hit London in full force.

The most common spring insects you’ll find during this time are ants, woodlice, beetles, flying insects of all sizes and cockroaches.

How to prepare your home for spring insects

So how do you avoid this happening? How do you stop spring insects from causing problems? The most important rule is this: prevention is always better than cure when it comes to pests.

You want to stop spring insects like ants from getting into your home in the first place. This will save you the trouble of getting rid of them. There are a couple of basic tips for keeping these bugs outside, where they belong.

Seal up their access points

All sorts of insects can enter through the tiniest of spaces. To prevent them from getting into your home, you need to completely seal up those small gaps and cracks they could use as entry points. Also make sure there’s no space for them to crawl through around your windows and doors.

In the case of flying insects, they are mostly attracted by light and food. A good option is to put up netting or fly screens over openings they can get in through.

Get into that spring cleaning

As we mentioned before, insects of all kinds are attracted by food. If you want to prevent spring insects, you need to get your kitchen spotlessly clean. Don’t wait until bugs have invaded.

Once everything is ship shape, get into the habit of cleaning for pest proofing, including counters and floors, every single day. And be sure to clear up spills and crumbs straight away.

As well as keeping your home clean, you should get rid of clutter. Set aside time to do some major organising as part of your spring cleaning binge. Get rid of old clothing, boxes, magazines, newspapers and other rubbish you don’t need. This will leave those bugs with nowhere to hide.

Of course, some insects are relentless and persistent. So no amount of sealing or cleaning will keep an infestation out. If you find yourself in this situation, give Diamond a call on 020 8889 1036. We can handle all insects and all sizes and severity of infestations.
