Why Are There Flies In The House?

Are you dealing with an above average number of flies in your home during the hot weather? If that’s the case, then you may be wondering why they have descended on your property. You probably already know that flies spread dozens of potentially dangerous diseases. So, the sooner you deal with these insects the better. There are several reasons why you may have flies. Here are the most typical ones.

Common causes of flies in the house

The most obvious reason for flies in the house is due to the time of year. You see, while flies do not technically hibernate, and you do still get flies in winter, their peak breeding season is during the warmer months. This means you are more likely to see them during summer.

Another reason why you may have flies in the house is because food waste isn’t being contained in an optimal way. Do you have overflowing kitchen bins or dustbins? As we’re sure you already know, flies are highly attracted to rubbish – especially decaying organic matter.

Another less palatable factor may include animal faeces in your garden. Neighbour‘s cats and urban foxes are usually the main culprits. .And flies are attracted by dead rodent carcasses in walls or attics.

So how can you solve your fly issues?

The first thing you need to do on your London fly control quest is secure your rubbish. What this means is that you should invest in air tight  kitchen bins and dustbins with secure lids. This will stop flies from getting at food scraps and being able to breed in the bin.

You should also empty your rubbish as often as possible. Something else you may want to do is build a cupboard in which you can place your dustbin. This adds a double layer of protection and also helps to deter other pests.

Make sure you never neglect to clean up immediately after you prepare food. Flies are attracted by dirty countertops or floors too. So keep these areas super clean. Also note that fermenting fruit on countertops may draw flies, so keep an eye on that too..

You also need to prevent flies from coming into the home. There are plenty of useful fly control products available. The best way to do this is to fit a flap screen or mesh screen to your back door. Also make sure to keep windows shut or install screens. Finally, be very careful about what you bring into the home. Anything you bring in from outside should be carefully inspected.
