Is It Time To Tackle Those Garden Pests?

Many people have garden pests. These can include things like ants, wasps and rodents. The natural thing to do is ignore these pests. After all, because they’re in the garden, these pests are less of a nuisance. But here’s what you need to understand. Garden pests can become household pests if left to their own devices. Eventually, these pests may find their way into the home and make your life a misery. Some of the worst garden pests are even known to use your garden as a landing point before coming into the house.

Why do you get garden pests like rodents?

Out of the three pests we’re looking at in this post, rodents are one of the least desirable to have on your property. In the case of rats, their presence is often triggered when they detect food in the environment around your house. This may happen when dustbins are not emptied, for instance. Rodents may also be attracted by things like bird feeders or fruit trees. Once rats find themselves a reliable food source, they will make themselves a nest in your garden shed or under decking.

Rodents can also come into your home from the garden. There are two reasons why this happens. As mentioned, the first is because something has attracted them into the garden. The second could because your garden is overgrown, giving them places to hide. It may also happen because there is refuse and clutter in the garden, such as builder‘s rubble. This should be quickly removed.

Another problem outdoors are ants and wasps

These pests often become an issue because there is a nest in your garden or near to your house. When you eat outside and leave behind food debris, or if you have a dirty barbecue area, these pests quickly show up. From there, they can easily get into the house. Ants will send out a scout ant to assess your home for food before coming back to the nest to bring other ants back to your house with them. Wasps will be a real nuisance in the garden, bothering you and your al fresco dining.

This is especially problematic if you have an actual wasp nest on the property. Try to keep food covered when eating outdoors. However, the best way to prevent the potential hazards of this situation is by removing the nest from your garden. If you’re going to remove the nest, we advise that you avoid doing it yourself. This can be extremely dangerous and it’s always better to hire a professional.

So what can you do about these garden pests? To prevent being bothered by these insects, there are things you can do. For example, keep your barbecuecli area clean, and empty dustbins frequently. Also make sure to clean up thoroughly when eating outside. Also, the reason ants get into the house is because they find a crack or hole in the walls of the house to get through. Or they may just slip beneath a gap under the back door. To prevent this, all of these entrance points should be tightly sealed.
